Lesson 1

Lesson Plan #1 Title:  Retelling who you are reading about

Performance Objective: Students will be able to verbally tell their partner who the main character in the story is receiving a 1 out of 2 on the rubric (See appendix A).

Resources or Materials Needed: Frog and Toad book / Henry and Mudge book 

Time: 1 hour 

Step 1: Pre-Instructional Activities: Students will warm up there reading comprehension skills by talking to their partner about what retelling means to them.  

Step 2: Content Presentation: Teacher will read Frog and Toad book with students. Teacher will demonstrate how to find the “who” when you are reading a book using the I do approach. 

Step 3: Learner Participation: Students will read Henry and Mudge on their own using the we do approach they will tell their partner who the story was about. 

Step 4: Assessment: The assessment in this lesson is formative. The teacher will listen for the communication between partners and take anecdotal notes to show whether the students were able to verbally retell who the story was about.  

Step 5: Follow-Through Activities: During independent reading students will practice finding the who in the books they are reading from their book box.
